Shopped today for “light pollution filter”. Here were the contenders:
- SkyGlowâ„¢ Broadband Filter, 1.25″ with a separate wavelength transmission graph – $59.95
- Skipped other SkyGlow filters because I could not find wavelength transmissions graphs
- Celestron UHC/LPR Filter – 1.25” – $64.95
- Celestron LPR Filter Model A – 1.25″ – $67.50
- Meade #908X O-III Nebular Filter (1.25”) – $99.95
- Meade #908N Narrowband Nebular Filter (1.25”) – $89.95
- Meade #908B Broadband Nebular Filter (1.25”) – $79.95
I ended up buying the Celestron UHC/LPR Filter because its transmission characteristics were as good as, and in some wavelengths better than, any of the other filters. I double and triple checked the tech data because it seemed odd that the 2nd cheapest would out-perform more expensive filters (albeit not by much).
Filter will probably ship tommorow, UPS ground, so it may be next week before it arrives. Then I just have to wait for a clear night sky…
